AP European History is a challenging and comprehensive course that provides an in-depth exploration of European history from the late Middle Ages to the present. This course is designed to give students a thorough understanding of key historical developments, themes, and events that have shaped modern Europe.
This course not only provides a deep understanding of European history but also enhances students’ analytical and writing skills. It prepares students for advanced studies in history and related fields, and it equips them with a broader understanding of global historical contexts and influences.

Course Objectives
Here are some things to think about before you start the course. These are skills and techniques that you might not be familiar with coming into the class but are required nonetheless.
Historical Thinking Skills
You (the student) will have to develop critical thinking and analytical skills through the examination of primary and secondary sources, historical texts, and interpretations. Basically you’ll be READING…A LOT! You will also have to learn to analyze historical evidence, make historical arguments, and evaluate different perspectives. Basically you will have to craft thesis driven essays and support your points with historical evidence.
Historical periods
The course covers significant periods in European history, including the Renaissance, Reformation, Enlightenment, the French Revolution, the Industrial Revolution, and both World Wars. You will study political, social, economic, cultural, and intellectual developments and their impact on European societies. You need to be VERY familiar on how to differentiate these categories.
Thematic Understanding
Students will explore major themes such as the evolution of political institutions, the impact of economic changes, cultural transformations, and the development of ideologies. They will also examine the relationships between European nations and their global interactions
Exam Preparation
The course prepares students for the AP European exam, which assess their understanding of historical concepts and their ability to apply historical reason skills. Students will practice essay writing, document analysis, and multiple choice questions in preparation for the exam.
